The story

Mom and Dad and Lulu move to a strange country on the other side of the world. Against Lulu´s will. There she worries about everything, almost all the time. The worst part is school. Mom and Dad try to help, but they don't understand.  Then something happens that does help. It helps Lulu and Mom and Dad.

This is an easy to read book for all ages. It focuses on the importance of understanding and containing children's reactions when moving across cultures and languages. It is written with the intention of giving  families in migration contexts important topics to talk about.

Cross-cultural and third culture kids

Many children grow up with multiple countries, homes,  ethnicity, cultures and languages. There is no doubt that growing  up in a cross-cultural context gives children a lot of possibilities and resources that the global society sorely needs. But living as a little nomad can also be stressful and difficult. Building emotional resilience helps cross-cultural kids and third culture kids to thrive. We hope this book can be useful for expat families, families in global transition, immigrants, globally mobile individuals, and those caring for or working with them.

A Cross-Cultural Kid (CCK) is a person who has lived in, or meaningfully interacted with, two or more cultural environments for a significant period of time during developmental years. A Third Culture Kid (TCK) is a person who has spent a significant part of his or her developmental years outside of their parents’ culture. It's important to understand these concepts to prevent difficulties related to identity and belonging.

Ramón is an IT engineer recently coming out of the closet as an illustrator. Although he enjoyed drawing as a child, his creative side was lost somewhere along the way. Thanks to his wife Kari, he is once again enjoying use of the right side of his brain. Ramón has moved "here and there" eight times. He has first hand experience of the joys and sorrows of navigating cultures as a CCK and TCK.
